i got the chance to watch it in the very first day of indonesian film festival 2009: focus on riri riza. he's the director. this festival takes place in abaton. the opening started with balinese dance performance and short introduction movie about tourism of indonesia.
this film is actually an adaptation movie from the very famous book of andrea hirata with title 'laskar pelangi'. the title's translation doesn't perfectly fit, does it? anyway, after having some experience watching the adaptation movie, i didn't give much expectation this time. if we compare to the book, the visualize version of course could not capture all the written scenario well. however i'm still satisfied. i would give the ratings 8 out of 10 to this movie. good work!
in movie version there is no introduction to each character in detail. therefore the audiences who haven't got chance to read the book couldn't get the whole pictures of what's going on.
for those who doesn't have any idea about this book/film, it's about the childhood of the author and his friends where they had difficulties to go to school because of the poorness, eventhough they actually lived in one of richest city in indonesia. they have been taught about how to live a dream no matter of what they have now. they have to struggle to get every single thing that for the rich people who by the way lives next door might be very easy to get. what an inspiring story.
lintang, the genius one, and bu muslimah, the teacher, were the stars for me. they made the movie happy and sad at the same time. nevertheless the others has made a big contribution too to the success of this movie.
i cant wait to see the next movie of this series, the dreamer - sang pemimpi
last week i took a training about how to make good project plan. calm down, i'm not going to bore you with all the detail.
at the beginning of the training, we, all the participants were given a paper containing the questions that we should give an approximate answer by giving the range (lower bound and upper bound) reflecting around 90% chance of the correct answer. it's expected that the given range are not too wide. here's the questions:
1. January 1, 2000 population of the world
2. The year of Napoleon's birth
3. Length of the Nile River
4. Maximum takeoff weight of a Boeing 747 airliner
5. Seconds for a radio signal to travel from the earth to the moon.
6. Latitude of London
7. Minutes for a space shuttle to orbit the earth
8. Area of Sahara Desert
9. Height of Great Pyramid
10. Number of bones in the adult human body
it looks like a silly questions, but sometimes it happen that we've to determine something that we don't even know what it is.
btw, i could only answer 1 question correctly :d
which reminds me of this saying:
we should know something about everything and now everything about something
